Biography
Leigh Daniel Avidan, known professionally as Dan Avidan, was born on March 14, 1979, in Springfield, New Jersey. He is a musician, comedian, singer, and internet personality best known as the lead singer of the comedy band Ninja Sex Party and as one of the co-hosts of the Let's Play web series Game Grumps.
Before his rise to internet stardom, Dan studied advertising at Boston University and later participated in a student exchange program in France, where he broadened his cultural and artistic horizons. After returning to the U.S., he pursued music seriously, beginning in the early 2000s with the indie rock band The Northern Hues, and later with the synth-rock duo Skyhill, releasing the album Run With the Hunted in 2007.
Dan’s career took a major turn in 2009 when he met theoretical physicist and musician Brian Wecht. Together, they formed Ninja Sex Party, a comedic musical duo known for their over-the-top characters—Dan as the flamboyant Danny Sexbang and Brian as the silent Ninja Brian. The band quickly gained a cult following for their humorous, retro-inspired music videos and energetic live performances, eventually charting on Billboard with several of their albums.
In 2013, Dan became a co-host of Game Grumps, stepping in to replace Jon Jafari. Alongside Arin Hanson, he helped transform the channel into one of YouTube's most popular gaming and comedy platforms. The duo’s chemistry and improvisational humor have attracted millions of subscribers and spawned live tours and fan events.
Dan also collaborated with Arin and Brian to form Starbomb, a rap/comedy group that blends video game humor with catchy music. Starbomb has released several successful albums, further solidifying Dan’s status as a multi-genre performer.
Beyond comedy and gaming, Dan has continued to explore new creative ventures. In 2022, he co-founded Shadow Academy, a more serious progressive rock project with musician Jim Roach. The band highlights Dan’s dynamic vocal range and passion for storytelling through music, showcasing a more introspective and cinematic side of his artistry.
