This Week's Animal: Wally the Whale Shark
Wally is our 10 year old whale shark, born in the waters around Taiwan. We saved Wally after he was injured by illegal whale-shark hunters and he is now one of our permanent residents at the zoo!
Fun Facts about Whale Sharks:
- Whale sharks are the largest fish in the ocean, getting to as large as a schoolbus.
- Although they are sharks, whale sharks are filter feeders, meaning they eat plankton rather than hunt for their food.
- Whale sharks live up to 100 years old.
- Whale sharks give birth to live young
