Every Mother Counts One of David Bowie's songs, Everyone Says 'Hi' from the Heathen album, was donated to this foundation, started by Christy Turlington. The charity helps to raise money to increase childbirth safety for mothers and provide maternal and childcare programs worldwide. The funding provides opportunities to make pregancy and birth safe for women.
Keep A Child Alive Bowie and his wife, Iman, were longtime supporters of Keep A Child Alive (KCA), founded by Alicia Keys. KCA empowers children and younger people with resources, confidence and opportunities to live happy, healthy lives. Their mission is to help end AIDS for children and families. Bowie performed 3 songs at one of their fundraiser balls which provided financial support to 9 organizations in Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda and India. This foundation reaches over 150,000 people each year.
Save the Children This charity has worked in over 120 countries and helped over 1 billion children. Eglantyne Jebb founded this charity as the first global movement for children. Efforts help give children a healthy start in life and believe every child deserves a future. Funding supports refugee boys and girls, the additional impact of COVID-19, the emotional and physical effects of war trauma, and provides the largest aid organization in Yemen. Bowie chose this charity as his beneficiary for his 50th birthday conert celebration that was held in Madison Square Garden in New York in 1997.
War Child This organization works to help the lives of children who are at risk or are experiencing the effects of war. Their Vision states that they aim to help children and young people grow up free from fear and violence and to develop to their full potential. They provide child protection, education, pyschosocial support, skill training in livelihoods, and teach the importance in justice for themselves and gain assistance. A charity album was released with Bowie in support of this cause.
