Lily Chou Chou is a singer created for the movie All About Lily Chou Chou. This movie, directed by Shunji Iwai revolves around a juinior high boy named Yuichi and how he finds refuge in a singer named Lily Chou Chou's music. Despite all the struggles he starts to face in real life, the forum that he runs for Lily as well as her music keeps him going. This movie is known for its experimental nature and exploration of the Japanese youth, and proclaimed by many to be Shunji Iwai's best film. The soft soundtrack featuring Debussy's soft piano as well as Lily Chou Chou's atompsheric dream pop and shoegaze inspired soundtrack has been positively critiqued and has even took an award in the Music Category in the 2002 Shanghai International Film Festival.
